My Audi TT (MK1) Pictures & Mods (sold)

My passion for the Audi TT started with my own car. Affectionately known as "Baby Boy." A Moro Blue 2002 180Q Coupe with Aviator Grey interior.

APR Direct Port Performance Tuning

There are various performance chip tuners available for the Audi TT. I decided to go with APR's Direct Port program 93 octane specific with flip switch technology (I originally had 91oct and did a REVO trial). Reid Vann, in St Louis, updated me to the 93 program w/flip switch tech. http://reidvann.com/

Autometer Nexus Gauges (sold)

I've had these sitting around for a while. Purchased these gauges to monitor Oil temp and Fuel pressure. Another step in keeping an eye on the performance of the vechicle as I ask more of the engine.
These are LED based gauges and matches the interior audi "red" perfectly.

Great info here regarding where to monitor oil temp and pressure from on the 1.8t engine.

purchased from: www.egauges.com

AWE-Tuning Boost Gauge

I went w/AWE/s gauge b/c the lighting is identical to stock gauges & it keeps the air vent functional. A boost gauge allows one to easily monitor the turbo system boost / vac conditions. A must for turbo driven cars. Robert & blueTTop have good writes up too @ http://public.fotki.com/RoberTT/ & http://public.fotki.com/BlueTTop/

Bosch 4bar FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator)

Total install time: 10min w/photos!

Increasing the airflow by 11% (installation of the Modshack MOFO) and reducing the Fuel 11% (stock 3bar FPR limit) can only be compensated for for so long, then a lean code is thrown (Multiplicative adaptation exceeds +20%.)
This is where the 4 bar comes in... It squirts more fuel, the O2 sensors adapt to this new condition, and the Adaptation maps come into line somewhere around -4% (rich) which is about where you want them (0% being no correction).
The greater fuel charge brings the adaption maps ito a range the ECU can compensate for.
-info provided by Steve Schwing; Modshack-

Chassis and electrical grounding

Most stock cars, including the Audi TT, has a stock grounding system that consists of just a couple of cables that connect the chassis and engine to your battery's negative terminal. Grounding wires are the foundation of all car's electrical system (ignition system, coil packs, spark plugs, lights, fans, stereo, air conditioner, cigarette lighter, etc). Resistance, in the form of electrical impedance, is the enemy of all car's electrical equipment. High quality grounding cables minimize resistance and help make sure that all of the electrical equipment in the car is performing as well as it can.

12 ft of 4 gauge wire and 6 pairs of gold crimp loop connectors from http://www.partsexpress.com

My custom 180 connections include:
neg term -> tranny; tranny -> valve cover; valve cover -> coil pack ground
neg term -> throttle body; throttle body -> passenger fender
neg term -> driver fender

Dieselgeek short shifter

Pics from dieselgeek's website regarding the installation of this great short shifter. Having small hands made this installation easy. However, removing the Airbox is the way to go. The DG SS kit uses OE parts which keeps the stock feel but reduces the throw by 40%. DG now offers "race" versions for shorter throws and a more "connected" feel.

Dog Bones: Polyurethane Front Engine Mounts

The standard car suffers from the front wheels skipping under hard acceleration and this mount stops this without increasing the engine vibration or harshness inside the car. The new mounting consists of 2 pieces and is a very easy fit. Great for street driving.

Forge exhaust and 3.2 rear valence

I removed the restrictive stock exhaust and replaced it along with the rear valance. I had the 3.2 rear valance shipped to me from the UK. Thanks Marty.
I had to custom fabricate an adapter for this to work on the 180 down pipe since I was the 1st 180TT to get the forge. There is an adaptor available now from TT-stuff.com.

Full throttle spacer

The TT has a throttle by wire set up. The computer senses throttle position and adjust fuel accordingly. A lot of TT owners have discovered that true WOT (wide open throttle) is just shy of where the peddle bottoms out from factory. This 5.00 mod solves that problem. An adjustable stopper. Idea from jrok at Audiworld. Thanks for the info!

Modshack's TTDA (Stage I) & H&R Spacers install (spacers sold)

Installation of Steve's TTDA (TwinTube Dynamic Airbox) with K&N Filter went smoothly. This elminates the OEM airbox. Increases airflow to the intake manifold. I did a variation install that only gave me one true force fed inlet. Throttle response is smoother and this thing now SUCKS!!! <that's a good thing>.
Also installed 15mm/20mm spacers at this time.
For your own TTDA go to Steve's site: http://www.modshack.info/ttda.htm

Suspension (Koni struts / shocks & Eibach pro springs)

The TT on the "Audi of America" set up looks like a jeep. Unfortunately AoA did not allow the S-line suspension to grace the american shores (lawyers). Therefore, an aftermarket (or OEM from Germany) is in order to lower this thing to sports car height (an inch - 1.75 inches is the norm anything beyond that is extreme in my opinion). Parts from www.ttstuff.com

Paul & I tackled this project ourselves. Paul has the complete install and write up at his fotki site (links below: I only have some pics here).

The Honda and the Audi finally were introduced. Here they sit together for the first time after pic ...more

king up 'Baby Boy' from STL.

Yeah, I bought a 2006 Laguna Blue Pearl Honda S2000. Ironically, I always wanted a S2000 but life prevented it originally and I picked up the Audi (Baby Boy). Well, now it seems it's time for Baby Boy to go. No room or need for two sports cars.

The curb rash

Switched out wheels with one of the Audiworld peeps. My OE wheels where 'winter shot.' So I tradded my 'winter worn shoes' from those terrible mid-west winters for some shoes in better shape. One however had some curb rash so for potential owners can take a peek at the rash. Wheel can be refinished for under 100 bucks. Some have even had the stocks polished smooth for a nice shinny finish verses the stock classic satin look that I perfer. ...and yes, I do have the center caps.

Well my ride with the Audi TT has come to an end. Four years and a few months and I must say it was one heck of a ride. The adventures, the travels, the thrills, the skill learned. Yeah... Baby boy found his new owner. Met with the owner in STL the site of the 2007 TTcentral. It's been great. Now to look forward for the things life will bring.

The TTowed pics!
Jul 11, 2005

Yup, Baby boy finally joined the league of TTs that has been TTowed!

Turned out to be the infamous water pump. The early water pumps in the 1.8t are known to fail due to the plastic propeller used.

Parktown Audi took care of the repairs under warranty. Baby boy back on the road. With some curb rash! (see the wheel damaged photos).

The Wheel Damage Pictures
Jul 25, 2005

Pictures of the wheel damage that happened when BB was towed for the water pump failure. AoA gave me the run around for repairs for almost a year until I just decided to give up. AoA blamed the tow truck company and vice versa.

This left a bad taste in my mouth regarding AoA's customer service. I was really disappointed in them after years of great service and wonderful performance.

This is possibly the one sole event that caused me to pursue my old interests in the Honda S2k.
